United Arab Emirates Reiterates Support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, National sovereignty

The United Arab Emirates reaffirmed, Monday in New York, its support for the Autonomy initiative presented by Morocco to achieve a political solution within the framework of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.

Speaking before the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the Emirati representative emphasized that his country “renews its full support for the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco in its sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara and for the Autonomy initiative within the framework of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.”

In this context, he noted that the Moroccan Autonomy plan is consistent with international law, the UN Charter, as well as the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly.

The diplomat also welcomed the new development model for the Southern Provinces launched by the Kingdom to improve the living conditions of local populations, noting that this model has contributed to improving human development index in the region.

The speaker further referred to the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara, aimed at finding a lasting solution to this regional dispute.
