Influential US Congressman Joe Wilson stated on Monday in New York that the United States attaches great “importance” to the role played by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in fostering peace and stability in Africa, while also commending the “leadership” of President Donald Trump regarding Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
“We’re so grateful for His Majesty the King,” Wilson told the press following talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The United States “so treasures the significance of the Kingdom of Morocco to stability throughout Africa,” Wilson continued, highlighting that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, “is taking a lead in that in North Africa.”
Congressman Wilson, who chairs the Morocco Caucus in the US Congress, also praised the Kingdom’s progress and achievements, particularly in the economic, development, and defense sectors.
Welcoming “President Trump’s leadership regarding Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara,” Joe Wilson expressed the view that regional peace, stability, and prosperity remain closely linked to the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces.
“The whole concept of peace and stability and prosperity is indeed sovereignty by Morocco over the Sahara,” he affirmed. The congressman also highlighted the importance of the historic bilateral relations between Rabat and Washington, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and H.E. President Donald J. Trump.
“We so much admire Morocco. We have not forgotten [that] it was Morocco that was the first country to recognize the existence of the United States”, the US congressman concluded.
