The United Kingdom on Friday reiterated its support for the autonomy initiative for the Moroccan Sahara before the UN Security Council, considering it as the “most credible, viable and pragmatic” solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
In her explanation of vote following the Security Council’s decision not to renew the Minurso’s mandate, the United Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sarah MacIntosh, underlined that Morocco’s autonomy initiative “constitutes the most credible, viable and pragmatic basis for a lasting resolution to this dispute.”
In this regard, the British ambassador urged Council members to address the issue of the Sahara “in the interests of accelerating progress toward a just, lasting, and mutually agreed solution.”
