“The Kingdom of Bahrain reiterates its steadfast position on the Moroccanness of the Sahara, as well as its full support for the sovereignty of the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco over its Southern Provinces,” Bahrain’s Ambassador to the UN, Jamal Fares, said in his explanation of vote following the Security Council’s decision not to renew the Minurso’s mandate.
Fares also reaffirmed his country’s support for the autonomy initiative in the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, describing it as “the serious, realistic and credible basis for achieving a definitive, lasting and consensual political solution that would strengthen security and stability in the region.”
