Djibouti on Monday reaffirmed, in New York, its support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, welcoming the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara.
Addressing the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, Zeinab Ismael Assoweh, Counsellor at Djibouti’s Permanent Mission to the UN, stressed that the initiative could pave the way for fruitful dialogue that could “restore peace and stability in the region.”
In this regard, Djibouti considers the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797 a significant step forward towards “a just and lasting solution” to the Moroccan Sahara issue, Assoweh added.
Djibouti also welcomed the “significant” social and economic investments made by Morocco in its Southern Provinces, noting that these investments demonstrate Morocco’s “commitment to the sustainable development” of the region, she said.
