Moroccan Sahara: Bolivia Expresses Readiness to Open Trade Office in Dakhla

The Plurinational State of Bolivia expressed its readiness Wednesday in New York to open a diplomatic representation in Rabat, as well as a “trade office in the city of Dakhla, which will serve as a platform for Bolivian products to access African markets.”

The announcement was made in a joint communiqué adopted by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatraites, Nasser Bourita, and his Bolivian counterpart, Héctor Francisco Huanca Gutiérrez, following talks at United Nations headquarters on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Bolivia took note of “the Autonomy Proposal presented by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2007” and stated that it considers the proposal “a possible avenue for advancing negotiations toward a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution.”

The two countries also reaffirmed “their commitment to the fundamental principles of international law, particularly respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.”

They “welcomed the opening of a new chapter in their bilateral relations, based on the principles of political pragmatism, mutual respect, solidarity, and reciprocal benefits stemming from sustained dialogue and cooperation in various areas of common interest, for the benefit of their brotherly peoples.”

Morocco and Bolivia also “committed to intensifying high-level political dialogue and establishing a renewed institutional framework to support their shared aspirations for a more structured, dynamic and forward-looking relationship.”

To this end, the two countries agreed to “further strengthen bilateral relations, both politically and economically, notably by holding the first session of the Bilateral Political Consultations Mechanism, established by the two sides in 1999 as a permanent political and technical mechanism, which can provide a lasting framework for bilateral political dialogue.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two ministers signed an agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, official, service and special passports, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the diplomatic academies of the two countries.
