Paraguay has recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and is considering opening a consulate in the Kingdom’s southern provinces, announced, on Monday in New York, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rubén Darío Ramírez Lezcano.
“We support Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, and we are considering the upcoming opening of a Paraguayan consulate in this region,” Ramírez Lezcano told the press after a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
Ramírez Lezcano also announced the upcoming visit to Morocco of Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios.
The Paraguayan foreign minister also said he plans to visit Morocco before the end of the year.
The meeting between Bourita and his Paraguayan counterpart, which took place on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly, was also an opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues of common interest.
