In her statement, Forbin also reaffirmed “the support of the Republic of Haiti for the Autonomy Plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, which constitutes the only credible and realistic solution for resolving this regional dispute.”

She also “welcomed the adoption of the historic UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which endorses, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, the Autonomy Plan proposed by Morocco as the sole serious, credible, and lasting basis for achieving a political solution to this issue.”

The joint communiqué signed after the meeting between the Haitian minister and her Moroccan counterpart emphasized that Forbin “welcomed the growing international consensus, driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in favor of the Autonomy Plan and the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its Sahara, which is also the position of the Republic of Haiti.”

The communiqué also noted that the minister “praised the significant progress achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco in the socio-economic development of the Southern Provinces through the New Development Model, which promotes stability, security, and regional integration.”

It further stated that Bourita thanked Forbin for “the constant and firm support of the Republic of Haiti for the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara” and welcomed “the opening, in December 2020, of the Embassy in Rabat and a Consulate General in Dakhla, the Moroccan Sahara region.”
