Micronesia expressed, on Wednesday in New York, its full support to Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces and the Moroccan Autonomy Plan.

This position was expressed during a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Micronesian peer, Lorin S. Robert, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly High-level Week.

During the meeting, a cooperation roadmap for the 2025-2027 was signed between the two parties, in line with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, for the Kingdom’s commitment to South-South cooperation and solidarity with developing countries.

As part of this roadmap, Micronesia has provided its firm support to Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces, and the Moroccan autonomy plan as the only solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

This Pacific island nation solemnly stated that “the Sahara region is and has always been an integral part of Moroccan territory,” while commending “Morocco’s serious and credible efforts to achieve a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution based on compromise to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.”

Furthermore, Micronesia stated that “the Moroccan Initiative for autonomy within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco is the one and only solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, in accordance with Security Council resolutions since 2007, including Resolution 2756 of October 31, 2024.”

Through this position, Micronesia further bolsters the growing international momentum in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, as the only solution to this regional dispute.

Micronesia also expressed its appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the Kingdom’s commitment to raising its relations with the Pacific Island States to higher levels, while welcoming the Sovereign’s Vision for South-South cooperation, which has established Morocco and the Sahara region as a strategic catalyst for partnerships with the countries of the Global South.

Through this roadmap, Morocco is committed to sharing its experience and expertise to actively support Micronesia’s development priorities.
