Sahara: Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, Territorial Integrity

Saudi Arabia reiterated, in New York, its support for the Autonomy initiative presented by Morocco to definitively resolve the regional dispute over the Sahara, within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Speaking Monday before the 4th committee of the UN General Assembly, the representative of Saudi Arabia, Hassan Ben Mohammed Al Amri, stressed that his country “reaffirms support for the Autonomy initiative in the Moroccan Sahara within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity, as a solution consistent with international law and the resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly”.

He further underlined that Saudi Arabia rejects any attack on the supreme interests of the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as its territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

The diplomat also expressed his country’s support for the efforts made by Morocco to achieve a realistic political solution to the question of the Moroccan Sahara, based on compromise and the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and under the supervision of the UN Secretary-General.
