Burkina Faso reiterated on Wednesday its firm and consistent support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region, and welcomed the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of historic Resolution 2797, which recognizes the Autonomy Plan.

This position was expressed in a joint communiqué issued at the conclusion of the 5th Session of the Morocco-Burkina Faso Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired in Ouagadougou by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expartiates, Nasser Bourita.

In the joint communiqué, Traoré reiterated his country’s consistent stance in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region, as well as its support for the Autonomy Plan proposed by the Kingdom.

He also praised the growing international consensus promoted by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in favor of the Autonomy Plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

The head of Burkina Faso’s diplomacy further expressed great satisfaction and welcomed the historic adoption on 31 October 2025 by the UN Security Council of Resolution 2797, which recognizes the Autonomy Plan proposed by Morocco as the only serious, credible, and lasting basis for achieving a political solution to the artificial dispute over the Sahara, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

For his part, while welcoming the positive value of this decision, Bourita reiterated the thanks and gratitude of the Moroccan government for Burkina Faso’s unconditional support for Morocco’s positions within regional and international organizations.

He also welcomed Burkina Faso’s opening of its Consulate General in Dakhla on 23 October 2020, which reflects the continuity of this historic stance.

Bourita further expressed Morocco’s full solidarity with Burkina Faso in its tireless efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, emphasizing that Burkina Faso will always find in the Kingdom of Morocco a reliable partner committed to promoting and supporting its initiatives for stability and development.
