The autonomy initiative in Morocco’s southern provinces, presented by the Kingdom, is the only viable solution to the artificial regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, given its credibility, seriousness, realism and the broad international support it enjoys, according to the Malabo Declaration issued at the end of the opening session of the second ordinary session of the Parliament of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), held on Wednesday in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

According to a press release from the House of Councillors, the joint declaration, signed by the Speaker of the House, Mohamed Ould Errachid, and the President of the CEMAC Parliament, Evariste Ngamana, reaffirmed support for the just causes of the Kingdom of Morocco and the member countries of the CEMAC Parliament, foremost among them national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Declaration, the same source added, reflects the depth of the fraternal, friendly and united ties between Morocco and the member countries of the Community, and reiterates the shared determination to advance these relations at the parliamentary level through this exceptional regional parliamentary platform.

It also forms part of the joint dynamic launched by both parties in Rabat through the signing of a cooperation memorandum that laid out a key roadmap for joint action, strengthened by the establishment of an Economic Parliamentary Forum serving as a regular institutional framework for cooperation, bringing together political leaders, legislators and economic actors from Morocco and CEMAC member states.

The Declaration recalled that this forum represents an innovative mechanism for strengthening African integration and bolstering institutional support for governmental efforts in the areas of development, regional integration and the promotion of a shared continental economy.

The Declaration also referred to the content of the “Laayoune Declaration,” which concluded the proceedings of the first edition of the forum held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in Laayoune, the capital of Morocco’s southern provinces.
