UN: Algeria Rebuked for Attempt to Distort Security Council Resolution 2797 on Moroccan Sahara

The United Nations Secretariat has published the official text of the landmark Security Council Resolution 2797 concerning the question of the Moroccan Sahara, refuting Algeria's attempt to distort the interpretation of this resolution and clearly confirming its responsibility as a party to the resolution. This unprecedented delay in the publication of the resolution was due to Algeria's objection to the translation into Arabic of the term "the parties," as it appeared in the document put In Blue by the U.S. penholder, requesting that the Secretariat replace it with "the two parties." Algeria's persistent and intrusive interference in the work of the Security Council Secretariat caused a 24-day delay in the publication of the resolution, thus inviting criticism and condemnation from Council members, and speculation and interrogations from members of the press and the general public, eager to read the official version of the resolution.
