In a bid to bolster cooperation between the cities of Dakhla and Dreux (France) in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture and renewable energy, a meeting was held on Saturday in Dakhla.
The meeting was chaired by the president of Dakhla’s city council, Erragheb Hormatallah, in the presence of the mayor of Dreux, Pierre-Frédéric Billet, who is leading a French delegation mainly comprising business executives, investors and representatives of French group GEDIA, a major stakeholder in the fields of environment and renewable energy.
Speaking to the press, Hormatallah emphasized that this meeting provided an opportunity for GEDIA to present a project on agriculture, aquaculture, renewable energy and waste management.
An agreement has also been signed concerning a key project within the framework of the existing partnership between the commune of Dakhla and the council of Dreux, he added, pointing out that this partnership is substantiated through initiatives and tangible projects.
For his part, the mayor of Dreux said that this agreement marks the beginning of a pioneering experiment focused on recycling marine waste, as well as other types of waste, which will ultimately enable the creation of biogas through sustainable waste recycling.
This initiative also aims to protect the environment, given that Dakhla is distinguished by a unique ecosystem rich in natural resources, he explained.
For his part, Patrick Polge, CEO of the GEDIA Group, emphasized that this project consists of an experiment in micro-methanization, involving the production of gas and agricultural fertilizers from organic waste.
This project is part of the overall development strategy for the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, whether in tourism, agriculture, or sea fishing, he said.
