Suriname reaffirmed on Thursday its “continued support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region,” as well as its “full support for the Moroccan autonomy plan as the only credible, serious, and realistic basis for a solution to this issue.”
This position was highlighted in a joint statement signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname, Melvin Bouva, on the occasion of his working visit to the Kingdom, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, following the bilateral meeting held in Rabat.

In the statement, the Surinamese diplomat “noted with great satisfaction and welcomed the historic adoption on October 31, 2025, of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which, enshrines the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, within the framework of the Moroccan sovereignty, as the only serious, credible, and lasting basis for achieving a political solution to this regional dispute.”
The statement also welcomed the “growing international consensus and the momentum driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, in favor of the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco.”
In addition, the two ministers encouraged the signing of a “memorandum of understanding on cooperation between twinned cities, namely the Moroccan city of Dakhla and the Commewijne District in the Republic of Suriname.”
The statement recalls that Suriname opened an embassy in Rabat and a consulate general in Dakhla in May 2022.
