In June 2023, the Brazilian Senate adopted a motion backing Morocco’s autonomy initiative, calling for “more expressive” support for the Kingdom’s “serious and reliable” efforts to reach a solution to this regional conflict.

“Brazil has always taken a constructive and sensible position on this regional conflict. The time is right for our country to consider the autonomy proposal put forward by Morocco as a realistic and pragmatic basis for a political solution in line with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,” says the motion, signed by 28 Brazilian senators from different political backgrounds.

With the greatest diplomatic influence in Latin America, Brazil has never recognized the so-called “sadr”.
