Ecuador reaffirmed, Friday in New York, its support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco to achieve a definitive solution to the question of the Moroccan Sahara, adding that it is the “only serious, credible and realistic” proposal to move towards a lasting settlement.
In conformity with Security Council resolution 2797, “Ecuador supports the Moroccan autonomy proposal, which we believe is the only serious, credible and realistic proposal to advance towards a lasting solution”, said the representative of Ecuador before the United Nations’ Fourth Committee.
Ecuador also underlined its attachment to the political process carried out under the auspices of the United Nations, as well as to the efforts of the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy aiming to reach a definitive political settlement for this issue.
The representative of Ecuador also called on the parties to “participate in good faith without any preconditions” in the negotiations facilitated by the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy, based on the Moroccan initiative in order to achieve a “definitive and mutually acceptable” solution to this regional dispute.
