A delegation of U.S. congressional staff members visited Dakhla on Wednesday to learn about the economic potential of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, its investment opportunities and the major infrastructure projects underway.
Composed of political, economic, and legislative advisors to members of the U.S. Congress, the delegation held meetings with wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and governor of Oued Eddahab province Ali Khalil, and president of the regional council Yanja El Khattat.
Discussions focused on the major development projects underway in the region, the strategic sectors that drive its economy, and the prospects for boosting economic cooperation between Morocco and the United States. They also highlighted the strategic role of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab as the Kingdom’s gateway to Africa, in line with the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
In a statement to the press, El Khattat stated that this visit forms part of the momentum currently driving Morocco-U.S. ties, emphasizing that it provides an opportunity for delegation members to learn about the region’s investment opportunities and economic potential, as well as to explore ways to further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
The presentation given by the Regional Council and the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Investment Center (CRI) allowed the delegation members to learn about the region’s major infrastructure projects, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, agriculture, and tourism.
The delegation also visited the Dakhla Atlantique port construction site, where it attended a presentation on the progress of this key infrastructure project, before touring several of the city’s iconic landmarks.
